Fiber arts are a hugely uniting skill. Across time and among all peoples the ability to produce rope, thread and cord and in turn to tie, lash, or weave them together has been vital to survival. Even in modern times we interact with fibers on a daily basis from the threads in our clothing, to the laces on our shoes, humanity the world over is inextricably tied to the fiber arts that our ancestors perfected.
during this class we will cover:
-Selecting and harvesting natural materials from plant sources
-Preparation of those materials
-Twining and splicing those materials into strong, versatile cordage
-Essential knots and lashes useful for everything from making a tripod to pitching a tarp
